Why a Good Mattress Matters
Science shows that kids sleep more deeply than adults, and that sleep is essential to their health. Without quality sleep kids can’t perform well in school. The good news is that the right mattress can help ensure that growing kids get the sleep they need. Also, since a mattress can last for a decade or more it makes sense to invest in a good model that a child can use for years.
Mattresses are available in a number of varieties. Basic styles rely on a coil spring. These can be an affordable alternative, but they tend not to be as durable as other styles. Memory foam is a more modern and versatile choice. Foam has the advantage of conforming to the sleeper’s body for the ultimate in comfort and support. However, it’s also able to spring back to its original form when the sleeper arises. This makes foam exceptionally comfortable and durable. Plus, some manufacturers are able to cut foam to custom sizes to fit a great many varieties of bed frames.
The firmness of a mattress can also make a huge difference in how comfortable it is. It’s tempting to get kids a very plush, soft mattress, but think twice before doing so. A model that offers more support is usually better for a wide variety of sleepers. Children who sleep on their sides, tummies or backs will usually be comfortable with a slightly firmer mattress.
It isn’t always easy to determine what’s causing those sniffles and sneezes. Sometimes a foam mattress or other hypoallergenic material is helpful.
